Troubled Star Wide Receiver Accused of Punching Woman in NYC

Brandon Marshall, who was traded to the Chicago Bears Tuesday, has not been charged in the incident.

A woman has accused NFL star receiver Brandon Marshall of punching her in the face at a Manhattan nightclub, the NYPD says.

The woman alleges the incident occurred at 3:50 a.m. Sunday outside the Marquee in Chelsea.

Police are investigating a complaint she filed Monday evening. Marshall has not been charged in connection with the incident.

His attorney didn't immediately return a call for comment Wednesday.

The 27-year-old wide receiver was traded Tuesday from the Miami Dolphins to the Chicago Bears.

Both teams said Wednesday they were aware of the alleged incident before the trade.

Marshall, who has publicly said he suffers from bipolar disorder, is no stranger to problematic encounters on and off the field.

Last year, his wife was arrested after he was stabbed in the abdomen during a domestic dispute. Charges were later dropped.

Marshall was also involved in a 2007 fight in Denver that led to the drive-by slaying of the Broncos' Darrent Williams.

During the 2011 football season, Marshall, then a Dolphin, pledged to play like a "monster" during a Monday night football game against the New York Jets, going so far as to offer the bizarre promise that he would be kicked out of the game by the second half.

The Jets ended up winning that game, thanks in part to an interception all-star cornerback Darrelle Revis made by snatching the ball out of Marshall's hands in the end zone and running it back for a score.
