Boyfriend Expected to be Charged With Murder in Soho House Killing

Reports say Nicholas Brooks Indicted for Killing Swimwear Designer

Nicholas Brooks is expected to be arraigned Tuesday on murder charges for strangling and suffocating his ex-girlfriend in the Soho House last month, reports say.

Brooks, the 24-year-old son of Oscar-winning composer turned accused rapist Joseph Brooks, was charged with second-degree murder for killing swimwear designer Sylvie Cachay, according to published reports.

Cachay, 33,  who was trying to end their relationship, was found dead December 9 in an overflowing hotel room tub after checking in with Brooks when a fire erupted in her apartment.  She had bruises on her neck and a bite mark on her hand, sources said.

Delays in determining her exact cause of death led prosecutors to initially charge the younger Brooks with just strangulation.  He's been behind bars since detectives picked him up after Cachay's body was found.

Brooks has denied killing his ex, saying that she was alive when he left the room to get food.  Hotel surveillance cameras captured him leaving and entering the room.  If convicted, he faces 25 years to life in prison

His 72-year-old-father,  whose signature hit is the 1977  "You Light Up My Life," was charged last year with the casting couch rapes of  11 women.  He has pleaded not guilty.
