Man Charged With Manslaughter After Girlfriend “Accidentally” Shot in Face: Lawyer

The Tarrytown man was showing several rifles to his girlfriend when she was hit in the face by a shot from one of the guns, prosecutors say

A 25-year-old New Yorker has been charged with manslaughter in the shooting of his girlfriend. His lawyer says it was an accident.

The Westchester County district attorney says Eric Gaulin of Tarrytown pleaded not guilty Tuesday to manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide.

Police said the shooting occurred Sept. 2 as Gaulin showed several rifles to the victim, 23-year-old Megan Bookstaver of Hicksville, on Long Island. They had gone target shooting several days earlier and had been gun-shopping that day.

The district attorney said Bookstaver was hit in the face by a shot from one of the rifles. Gaulin's attorney said the shooting was "a tragic accident."

Gaulin is to return to court April 23.

If convicted of manslaughter he could be sentenced to five to 15 years in prison.
