Boy Steals Flatbed From Construction Site, Crashes into Yard

A 12-year-old Long Island boy was charged Saturday after he went missing and was later found behind the wheel of a flatbed truck crashed into a front yard.

Nassau County Police say the family of the boy, who has autism, reported him missing in Seaford early Saturday. He showed up hours later miles away in Levittown.

Police said the boy was somehow able to sneak on to a construction site at about 5 p.m. and drive off in a utility truck.

While behind the wheel of the massive flatbed truck, the boy smashed into a row of parked cars before ending up in someone's front yard on Carnation Road, police said.

No one was injured.

The boy was charged with third-degree unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and was released from police custody on an appearance ticket to his father. He is due back in family court Oct. 17.
