The father of a 6-year-old boy who was killed when a bus plowed into his Long Island home said he tried to save his son, but couldn't reach him in time.
David Granados was asleep in his room with his 7-year-old brother, Josue, Tuesday night when the Nassau Inter County Express bus slammed into the Hempstead home.
Santos Herrera, their father, was eating dinner with his wife when the bus lost control at about 9:30 p.m. Authorities said the driver was trying to avoid hitting a pedestrian. Eight passengers suffered minor injuries.
"It was a lot of noise," Herrera told NBC 4 New York. "The bus came and pushed everything into the room."
Herrera says he ran outside and broke a window to try and rescue his sons. He was able to get to his older son, who had minor injuries, but could not save David, who was hit by falling debris.
"I went outside and broke a window and picked up Josue but David I no see," Herrera said.
The father, 41, a cook in an Italian restaurant, says Josue has been asking about his brother: "Where did he go? My David."

The pedestrian who was struck was taken to the hospital. He suffered fractures to his skull, ribs and clavicle and remains hospitalized.
Bus passenger Christopher Barnes says the man was jaywalking across Fulton Avenue and appeared "like a ghost."
"The bus driver said 'Oh my God! Move!' And then he swerved to miss the guy and the bus ended up in the house," Barnes said.
Police said a preliminary investigation indicated no apparent criminality.
