Boy Playing Game Dies in Fall From Brooklyn Rooftop: Police

A boy died in a fall from a building rooftop in Brooklyn Thursday while playing a game of tag with friends, police say.

The boy was playing a chase-and-tag game called Manhunt, and he tried to jump over a 10-foot gap from one four-story Crown Heights building to another, police said.

The teen, identified as 15-year-old Tyreek Riley, was found on the ground by officers responding to a call on President Street around 4:30 p.m. and pronounced dead.

Riley was described by family friends as a good kid who they never knew to be a daredevil.

"He is a very nice kid. He's in the PathFinder club, he sings in the choir, and he is a very helpful kid," said Virginia Straker, who said friends were "torn up" when they heard the news.

Neighbors said teens had been going to the roof lately to play, despite warnings from adults to stay away from the space.

"I tell them every single day, stop it, get out of the building, do something," said one neighbor.
