2-Year-Old Boy Struck by Car in Brooklyn Has Died

A 2-year-old boy struck by a car that jumped a curb in Brooklyn last Saturday has died, family and police said Friday.

Denim McLein and his mother, Wendy, were severely injured when they were hit by a Lincoln sedan that crashed through a bus stop at the corner of Utica and Church avenues in East Flatbush.

The boy died early Thursday; his mother, Wendy, remains in a semi-coma, his aunt has said.

The eight other people hit by the car that jumped the curb were expected to be OK. After hitting the pedestrians, the car plowed into a sidewalk shed, causing it to collapse, authorities said.

Police said the driver told investigators that her brakes failed. She and a male passenger in the car with her were taken to the hospital with non life-threatening back and neck injuries, authorities said.

The driver passed a Breathalyzer test and was not charged.
