Boy, 14, Paralyzed After Being Shot While Riding Bike on Long Island: Police

A 14-year-old is paralyzed from the shoulders down after being shot in the torso while riding his bike last month on Long Island.

Manuel de Jesus Sosa Marquez, 22, was arrested Tuesday in connection with the Aug. 6 shooting, Nassau County police said.

Police say Marquez was the passenger in a 1995 Honda that was traveling on Argyle Avenue at Davis Street in Uniondale around 11:50 a.m. when he fired three shots at the victim, who was riding his bike on Argyle Avenue.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound to his upper torso. Police say he is now paralyzed from the shoulders down.

Marquez was arrested at his Hempstead home Tuesday and charged with attempted murder. It wasn’t immediately known if he had an attorney.
