Authorities said Jon Bon Jovi's 19-year-old daughter was hospitalized after overdosing on heroin in a dorm at her upstate college.

Town of Kirkland police said an ambulance was sent to Hamilton College early Wednesday morning after a report that a female had apparently overdosed on heroin.

Investigator Peter Cania said Wednesday that Stephanie Bongiovi, of Red Bank, N.J., was recovering at a hospital he declined to name.

Police originally charged Bongiovi and 21-year-old Ian Grant, also of Red Bank, with drug possession, but charges were later dropped after police determined state law prohibits prosecution of a person for possession of a small amount of drugs after seeking medical care for an overdose.

Bon Jovi is scheduled to perform at a benefit concert for Hamilton in Times Square on Dec. 5.

The musician's representative isn't commenting on his daughter's overdose.
