‘Pokemon Go' Player Finds Body in Brook in Nashua, NH

The body was found by someone playing the popular mobile game

A "Pokemon Go" player found a body Thursday afternoon in a brook near the Holocaust memorial in Nashua, New Hampshire, according to authorities.

Nashua police said the body was found in the Salmon Brook behind the memorial on Main Street around 2 p.m.

"Its my understanding he was playing a Pokemon game, which led him to this obscure spot here in the city," said Nashua Police Lt. Robert Giggi.

Witnesses on the scene said there is a Pokestop -- a real-world spot where players can visit to receive in-game items -- at the brook.

"It seems to be bringing people to places they wouldn't normally go, so I think inevitably, these people would be found," Giggi said.  "I think they're just being found sooner."

Doug Singer, who also plays the game, and explained why he comes to the water to play it.

"It's kind of like a geo scavenger hunt where you go to different spots," he said. "You find the fish animals and turtles and things like that. There are some that are more rare than others, so you have to go to all the different areas to get all the different animals."

Police believe the man is from Nashua, and they don't think his death is suspicious, nor do they believe he was playing the game.

This is not the first time a "Pokemon Go" player has encountered a body. Police say another player also recently found a dead body floating in a river in Wyoming.

And three women in the San Diego area found a decomposing body while playing the game during a hike, NBC 7 reported

Police want people to be aware of their surroundings.

"It's not a dangerous spot, not a place where you really have to use caution," Giggi said. "I guess the only hung I would say is if people are participating in this, to be careful where you are going and use common sense."

The victim's name has not been released. An autopsy on his body will be performed Friday.
