Body Found on Long Island Beach Showed Signs of Violence, Being Investigated as Homicide: Police

Homicide detectives are investigating after a man looking for driftwood on a Long Island beach found a body on the sand, police say.

The beachcomber discovered the man's body Wednesday afternoon near the Miller Beach Surf Club on the island’s north shore, Suffolk County police say.

The man appeared to have been the victim of violence, according to a preliminary investigation by the Suffolk County medical examiner’s office.

Other details, including the identity of the victim, were unavailable early Thursday.
