Human remains were found in the woods on Long Island, authorities said Saturday, making the third such grisly discovery in the area in two weeks.
The remains were found near the border of Freeport and Merrick near the Long Island Rail Road tracks, Newsday reported.
The death was believed to be gang-related, Nassau County police and the FBI said. Identification of the remains was expected to take several days.
Police and the FBI's gang task force have been searching in Nassau County this week after finding the body of a 16-year-old boy on Oct. 19.
Investigations found the body of the teen, Angel Soler, in a 27-acre woodland in Roosevelt. Soler had been reported missing in July.
On Thursday, a body was found by the FBI in Freeport.
Police said they had cracked down on gang activity with 58 arrests since Thursday night. Six of those were MS-13 members and three were Vatos Locos, police said.

"We are sparing no effort to make sure that we eradicate gang violence in our county," District Attorney Madeline Singas said.
Authorities announced this week that 15 young people of Hispanic heritage -- including six with known connections to gangs such as MS-13 -- are missing in Nassau County.
It's not clear how many of those missing people -- who make up more than a quarter of the 59 missing persons cases in the county -- are feared alive or dead, or if they're thought to be victims of the violent MS-13 street gang, which has been blamed for at least 22 killings across Long Island since the beginning of 2016.
