The body found in a burning car on Long Island earlier this week has been identified as 45-year-old Lauren Fontana, of Middle Island.

Firefighters found Fontana's body Tuesday morning after someone called 911 to report a car on fire in a parking lot in Nissequogue, Suffolk County police said.

When responding firefighters put out the blaze, they discovered the body inside.

Homicide detectives are continuing the investigation and ask anyone with information about the incident to call the homicide squad at (631)-852-6392.

The village of Nissequogue is located in Smithtown.
