Blaze Shuts Down Part of Manhattan Bridge

Bridge inspectors are at the scene to assess whether the bridge sustained any structural damage.

Travelers headed for the Manhattan Bridge may do well to stay away.

A raging tractor-trailer fire has forced authorities to shut down parts of the bridge. The eastbound lanes on the upper level were closed for an hour or two while one lane remained open on the westbound side. The lower level of the bridge stayed open in both directions.

It's not clear how much, if any, structural damage the bridge sustained. Bridge inspectors are at the scene.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known. The fire is extinguished, but drivers should expect traffic due to rubbernecking.
