Cyclist, 29, Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver on Staten Island

Police are looking for a black SUV or pickup truck in connection with the deadly crash.

Police are looking for the driver who struck a bicyclist on Staten Island Sunday night and fled the scene, leaving the 29-year-old victim to die on the side of the road.

Police responded to a 911 call of a bicyclist struck on Howard Avenue just after 9 p.m. 

Authorities say a preliminary investigation reveals the cyclist was riding eastbound on Howard Avenue in the westbound lane when he was struck. The driver fled the scene.

Emergency personnel rushed the victim to Richmond University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Police identified him as Ron Tillman of Brooklyn.

Officials said the force of the crash knocked off one of his sneakers. He had been wearing a college sweatshirt and carried a backpack with a textbook in it at the time of the accident.

Police are searching for a black SUV or a pickup truck in connection with the deadly hit-and-run.

The investigation is ongoing.
