Between Floors: Mom Gives Birth in Elevator, Cop Helps

While a police officer helped escort a laboring mother to the hospital and in the elevator to the maternity ward, her baby had other ideas about where he wanted to go.

The baby boy was born in the elevator at South Nassau Communities Hospital with the police officer assisting in the delivery, Nassau County police said.

Officer Resnick discovered the expectant mom during a traffic stop on Friday and escorted her to the hospital, police said.

At the hospital, he helped her into a wheelchair and brought her to the emergency room. A staff member was taking them in the elevator when the baby made his grand entrance.

Resnick carried the newborn from the elevator to hospital staff, where they took over.

The mom and baby were doing well, police said.
