New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is being honored for his "extraordinary contributions'' to meeting the challenges of globalization with a prize in Berlin.

Bloomberg was being given the annual Henry A. Kissinger Prize at the American Academy in the German capital on Tuesday.

The Kissinger Prize has been awarded each year since 2007 to a European or American who has made an important contribution to the trans-Atlantic relationship.

Kissinger praised Bloomberg's accomplishments "as a philanthropist and public servant.''
