A 35-year-old Staten Island man has been accused of breaking into a woman's Manhattan apartment through the fire escape, then groping her as she slept, the NYPD says.
Jeffrey Joseph was arrested Monday on charges of sex abuse and burglary in connection with the alleged assault in the 43-year-old woman's West Village apartment on Thursday.
The woman was asleep when a suspect entered the building through the front door, went to the back and scaled a fire escape, police said. He went into the second-floor apartment, then grabbed the woman's buttocks.
The attacker ran from the apartment when the woman woke up, authorities say.
It's not clear if Joseph has an attorney.
