Bayonne Bridge to Close Overnights in Jan., Feb.

Motorists traveling between New Jersey and Staten Island will soon feel the effects of a major construction project on the Bayonne Bridge.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is reminding travelers that the bridge will be closed overnight on weekdays beginning January 6 through February.

The closures are for a $1.2 billion project to raise the roadway to give larger ships access to New York and New Jersey ports.

The bridge will be closed Monday through Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., and from midnight Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday. It will remain open on Saturday and Sunday nights and on holiday weekends.

The new bridge roadway will have wider lanes, a median and a bike and pedestrian path.
