Badly Hurt Brooklyn Woman Delivers Baby in Burn Unit

Hospital staff say it may be the first time a baby was born in the burn unit.

A New York City woman badly injured in a fire last month has delivered a baby boy in the hospital's burn unit.

Doctors at Staten Island University Hospital told the New York Post it was the first they could recall that a baby was born in the hospital's burn unit.

Hospital spokesman John Demoleas said it was a special moment for the staff, which always deals with tragedy. This time, he said, they had an opportunity to deal with life.

The unidentified woman was among more than 30 people injured in the Brooklyn apartment building fire. Authorities said it was intentionally set.

A 56-year-old man was arrested and charged with arson.
