An international home security company is recalling nearly 30,000 baby monitors sold at Babies "R" Us, Target and other retailers over concerns the batteries can overheat, posing a burn hazard to customers.
The batteries of the Lorex Care ‘N’ Share baby monitor can swell and expand, causing the battery cover to open or come off, exposing the hot batteries.
The model numbers, which are printed on the back panel of the numbers, included in the recall are WL3520, WL4320 and WL3401. The monitors were sold in bundles with cameras. They contain a blue lithium polymer battery and measure about 4 inches tall by 5 inches wide. The products have a white plastic back and either a white or black border. “LOREX” or “The Lorex Baby” is printed below the monitor screen.
The monitors were sold at retailers nationwide from May 2013 to April 2016, including at Amazon, Walmart, Babies "R" Us, Best Buy and Target.
Lorez has received 488 reports of batteries overheating. No injuries have been reported.
Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled monitors and contact Lorex to receive a full refund.
