Baby Abandoned at Newark Bus Stop

The infant was tucked in a laundry basket.

Police are investigating after a baby was abandoned at a Newark, N.J. bus stop.

The infant was wrapped in a blanket, tucked into a laundry basket and left early Tuesday morning.

The bus stop along Bergen Street is near a hospital entrance.

A passerby alerted a hospital police officer about the crying baby, and the baby was rushed to the hospital.

"The action taken by this citizen ultimately saved the infant's life," said Newark Police Director Damuel DeMaio.

Anyone with information about the baby is urged to call the department's Crime Stoppers tip line at 877-NWK-TIPS, or 877-695-8477.
