Authorities Seek Motive for Fatal NJ Shooting

Authorities are seeking a motive for the fatal shooting of a man in northern New Jersey.

Essex County prosecutors say East Orange police found 18-year-old city resident Sharod Jefferson around 9:40 p.m. Saturday on the lawn of a home in the 200 block of Dodd Street. The discovery came after they were flagged down by residents who told them someone had been shot.

Jefferson was unresponsive when police arrived, and he was pronounced dead at a hospital a short time later.

Further details on the shooting were not disclosed, including what type of weapon may have been used.

The shooting is being investigated by the county's major crimes task force.
