Police Search for Suspect in Attempted Brooklyn Rape

Police are searching for a man who attempted to rape a woman in Brooklyn early Friday morning.

The suspect grabbed a woman from behind while she was walking on Graham Avenue near Scholes Street in Williamsburg at around 4:20 a.m., officials said. He threw her onto the ground and attempted to rape her but ran off when another person stopped to help the victim, police said.

Neighborhood residents said they were shocked by the assault.

"It's kinda scary," said Michelle Williams, who has lived in the area for 29 years. "We didn't have problems like this when I was growing up."

Authorities released the photos above of the suspect taken from surveillance video.
