Suspect Arrested for Attempted Rape of NYU Student in Soho

Police have arrested a man they say grabbed a 20-year-old NYU student in a choke hold and tried to rape her on a Soho street before robbing her and running off.

Police say the woman was walking on Thompson Street between Prince and Spring streets at about 1:15 a.m. Oct. 8 when she was attacked.

The suspect attempted to sexually assault her, then ran off with her bags.

Surveillance video showed the man believed to be the suspect walking into the lobby of a building with a bag, believed to belong to the woman, police say.

The 28-year-old suspect, Glenn Williams, who is on parole for a weapons charge, was identified through facial recognition technology, according to law enforcement officials. He is charged with attempted rape, robbery, sexual abuse and assault.

It's not clear if he has a lawyer.
