Police Arrest Man in Shooting That Wounded NJ Girl

Tyree Kirkpatrick is accused of shooting the bullet that left an 11-year-old Asbury Park girl critically wounded

Police in New Jersey arrested a man Monday in connection with the shooting of an 11-year-old girl last month.

Tyree Kirkpatrick, 23, of Asbury Park, is accused of shooting into an Asbury Park home the night of Feb. 20, intending to hit someone else inside, police said. Instead, the 11-year-old girl, who was cleaning her room, was shot in the face.

The girl spent several days in critical condition and is now considered stable, the Monmouth County prosecutor's office said.

Police said at the time of the shooting it was drug-related.

Kirkpatrick was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a firearm. He remains in jailon $750,000 bail.

It wasn't clear if he had an attorney.
