Armed Robber Targeting Elderly Women in Park Slope: NYPD

Police say the mugger who choked and robbed a 91-year-old woman as she walked into her brownstone apartment in Park Slope this week also targeted another woman in the neighborhood as she carried her groceries home last month.

The 71-year-old victim, who did not want to be identified, told NBC 4 New York that she's been afraid to leave her house since the vicious mugging on Feb 11.

"The bastard needs to be caught," she said.

She said she was walking home with groceries when the man grabbed her from behind and shoved a gun in her mouth. He then dragged her inside, tried to tie her up and threatened to tape her mouth shut. The mugger then made off with $400, authorities said.

Three weeks later, he targeted Elizabeth Gioino as she returned from the library to her brownstone on Ninth Street.

Gioino told NBC 4 New York sister station Telemundo 47 that the robber asked for someone named "Jack" before choking and pushing her.

He forced her in her building and stole $370 from her and a neighbor who heard the noise and tried to help.

"I told (the police), 'If they catch him, you should kill him,'" she said. "Because if they put him for a jail for a week, a couple of weeks, he gets right out and does it again."

Anyone with information about the man should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
