New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan is calling Pope Francis' recent comments a "breath of fresh air.''

Catholics around the globe are expressing mostly positive reactions to the pope's remarks that the church has become too focused on "small-minded rules'' on hot-button issues like homosexuality and abortion.

Dolan told reporters Sunday that the pope "speaks like Jesus.''

A worshipper at St. Patrick's Cathedral, 73-year-old Marilyn White, said she welcomed the words of Francis.

White said the pope has "sent a good message'' and opened dialogue and that he might bring people "back to the church.''
