Man Angry About Goose Poop Near Upstate Lake Admits Killing Goose: Officials

A Putnam County man told animal cruelty authorities that he shot and killed a goose because he was annoyed by the amount of goose poop near a neighborhood lake, authorities said.

Gregory Stefkovic, 44, told local SPCA officers that he fatally shot the goose with an air gun near Lake Ossi in Carmel Monday because there was too much goose poop around the shore, and it was toxic to children who wanted to play in the area.

Stefkovic, who had been identified as the shooter by a person who called authorities to complain, also turned his 1.77-caliber air gun over to investigators.

He was charged with one count of animal cruelty.

The state Department of Environmental Conversation also issued Stefkovic several citations for hunting-related violations.

He's scheduled to be arraigned next month. Information on an attorney wasn't immediately available.
