That cigarette butt could soon cost you, whether you smoke or not.

If all the scare stories of how smoking is bad for your health can't convince you to stop, maybe this will.

Smoking can be bad for your car's health as well.

    Very bad.

At least it was the other day for an unidentified motorist driving in South Brunswick, N.J.

A careless toss of a cigarette butt left her car in flames.

"She thought she threw the cigarette out the window but realized she may have missed when the car caught fire," said South Brunswick Police Captain James Ryan about the 19 year old woman in a press release.

The clue to her predicament came when "she felt heat on her back and  the vehicle began to fill with smoke," said Capt. Ryan.

At that point she pulled her 1998 Civic over to the side of the road and called 911.

By the time the Monmouth Junction Fire Department arrived, her car was fully engulfed in flames.

There is no word from police on whether that motorist will now give up smoking.
