Police Seek 3 Suspects Involved in Astoria Rape

The assault happened at about 3:45 a.m. Sunday, police said.

Police are searching for three men who worked together to pull a 20-year-old woman into an Astoria parking lot where one of the suspects raped her early Sunday.

Two of the suspects grabbed the woman from behind at about 3:45 a.m. Sunday as she was walking near Vernon Boulevard and 10th Street, police said. They “held her down while the third suspect raped her before fleeing,” police said Tuesday.

Police described the alleged rapist as 5’10” with dirty blonde hair and light-colored eyes, and said he is between 25 and 30 years old. They released no details on the other two male suspects.

The victim was treated and released at a local hospital, police said.

"It's dead around this area. It is pretty scary around this area," said Esmerelda Frausto of Astoria, who works on the block where the attack occurred. "We get security when people walk us to our cars because we work here, but other than that, you never see security. That is pretty scary."

Police are canvassing the area, hoping to get surveillance video that might assist them in their investigation.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
