Police: Alabama Man Arrested With Loaded Gun at NYC Airport

An Alabama man has been arrested after police say they caught him with a loaded gun at New York's LaGuardia Airport.

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police say Thomas Whitten was arrested at an airport ticket counter Sunday night.

They say Whitten had a loaded .380 caliber pistol, three additional magazines and a box of ammunition. Authorities say the weapon and ammunition were in a box Whitten was carrying.

Police allege the 43-year-old, from Guntersville, Alabama, did not have a valid New York State gun permit. He was arrested on a felony weapons possession charge.

Online court records show Whitten appeared in court Monday and was released without bail.

Calls to his home went unanswered Tuesday afternoon. The name of his attorney was not immediately known.
