Syracuse Grad Sorkin to Speak at Commencement

Aaron Sorkin, a 1983 SU graduate, will be the speaker at the May 13 commence in the Carrier Dome

Oscar- and Emmy-winning writer-producer Aaron Sorkin will deliver this year's commencement address during graduation ceremonies at his alma mater, Syracuse University.

Syracuse Chancellor Nancy Cantor says Thursday that Sorkin, a 1983 SU graduate, will be the speaker at the May 13 commence in the Carrier Dome. Sorkin graduated from Syracuse with a bachelor of fine arts degree in theater.

The 50-year-old Sorkin won six Emmys for creating and writing television's "The West Wing" and won an Academy Award for Best Screenplay in 2010 for "The Social Network." His other screenwriting credits include "Moneyball," ''A Few Good Men" and "Charlie Wilson's War."
