22 Hurt When Cruise Ship Crashes Into Wall in Upstate New York: Officials

Authorities say 22 people aboard a cruise ship were injured when the vessel crashed into a wall while entering a lock on the St. Lawrence Seaway in upstate New York.

The U.S. Coast Guard says the 286-foot Saint Laurent was headed from Montreal to Toronto when it hit a wall in the Eisenhower Lock in Massena, near the Canadian border, after 9 p.m. Thursday. There were 273 people on board, including 192 French and Swiss passengers and 81 crew members.

The Coast Guard says 19 passengers and three crew members were treated at a Massena hospital and released. The company says all the injuries were minor.

Officials say the water has been drained from the lock. Crews are assessing the damage before deciding how to remove the vessel.

The Saint Laurent is owned by Nassau, Bahamas-based Adventurer Owner Ltd.

The crash remains under investigation.
