Firefighters Among 18 Hurt in Bronx Blaze: Officials

Three firefighters and 15 civilians were injured in a fire at a high-rise building in the Bronx, fire officials said.

Firefighters battled flames at the Washington Avenue building in Claremont for nearly two hours after it erupted early Tuesday.

Two of the hurt civilians had serious injuries but were expected to survive; all three injured firefighters were expected to recover and the injuries to the other victims were considered minor.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
