Maria Montalvo was crossing an intersection in Hunts Point when she was hit by a pickup truck

A 66-year-old Bronx woman died after she was struck by a car while crossing the street Friday morning, authorities said.

According to police, Maria Montalvo was crossing the intersection at Hunts Point and Lafayette avenues in Hunts Point at around 10:30 a.m., when she was hit by a pickup truck. The driver of the truck remained at the scene of the accident, police said.

Authorities responded and found Montalvo unconscious and unresponsive. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

No charges have been filed though police are continuing to investigate the crash.

"She was on the floor and I didn't even recognize her because she had so much blood on her," said a sobbing Sandra Dejesus, a friend of Montalvo's who saw her lying in the street after the accident. "I'm feeling very sad."
