6 Arraigned on Assault Charges for Karaoke Beatdown

Reportedly attacked woman because they didn't like her performance

She couldn't have sang that bad -- sheesh.

Six women were arraigned this week for allegedly beating up another woman because they didn't like the way she was singing karaoke.

Five of the women, all from Connecticut, were arraigned yesterday in Stamford Superior Court, and the other appeared in court Monday.

The attack on Leidy Alcantara, 25, of Port Chester, happened on the night of Sept. 23 when she was singing a Spanish song at Bobby Valentine's Sports Gallery and Cafe in Stamford, cops told The Stamford Advocate.

It's not clear if the attack was prompted by Alcantara's voice or the song she chose -- "A Dios Le Pido" by Colombian singer Juanes. She did admit it was her first time doing karaoke.

Alcantra said the fight started with heckling; one of the defendants, Kiana Strickland, said she was annoying, the singer claimed.

"Then she said something else and punched me in my face," Alcantara told the Daily News. "I don't know if I was good or bad. I was a little confused. I didn't really know the song. But nobody was complaining. Everybody was happy. She was the only one. She was crazy."

The six women, all under the legal drinking age of 21, knocked Alcantra to the floor, punched her and pulled her hair. The singer suffered bruises and a chipped tooth, authorities said.

"The verbal exchange didn't go well," said Stamford Police Lt. Sean Cooney.

Apparently not.

But another one of the defendants, Michelle Rosedom, said the charges are completely bogus. The singing did not precipitate the fight and she never even touched Alcantra, she told the News.

"This wasn't about her singing, it was about her putting her hands on one of the girls, and a fight started. All we were doing was eating wings," Rosedom said. "We weren't even drinking, she was. And now we're facing three charges. I didn't even touch her."

The defendants -- Rosedom, Strickland, Martisa Chambers, Danielle Swanson, Chaniel McRae and Deja Hines, all between ages 19 and 20 -- are charged with third-degree assault, conspiracy to commit third-degree assault and breach of peace.

They're due back in court later this month.
