40 Yrs for Man Who Killed Daughter, Babysitter

A man who shot and killed his 9-year-old daughter and her babysitter and then walked out the front door of his Mount Vernon, N.Y. home and surrendered to police was sentenced Tuesday to 40 years in prison.

Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced that Darrell Evans was sentenced to two consecutive 20-year terms for the January 2010 killing.

Prosecutors said Evans and his wife were arguing over the phone when he told her he was going to kill the babysitter and their daughter. The wife then called Mount Vernon police to alert them to the threats.

When police responded, Evans emerged from the house and admitted to committing "murder" inside.

Police then found the babysitter, Lorna Williams, dead from a gunshot wound to the head. The child was found in her bed with multiple gunshot wounds. She died at the hospital.
