4 Shot in Coney Island; Mom in Critical Condition

Four people were injured, one seriously, after an argument erupted in gunfire in Coney Island last night, police say.

Police said the shooting apparently happened after a dispute involving a 20-year-old man and a teenage girl. It occurred at 9 p.m. Wednesday outside the Coney Island Houses, near the beach.

Police say the girl's teen-aged brother got into an argument with the 20-year-old man.

Later, the 20-year-old showed up with two other men. At some point shots rang out. Police say it has not been determined where the shots came from or who fired them.

A police source said cops do not believe either group was responsible for the gunfire.

The 20-year-old and his friends were struck. They were taken to Lutheran Medical Center where they were listed in stable condition.

Police say the girl's 36-year-old mother, whom the family identified to NBCNewYork as Victoria Rogucki, was hit in the head. She was in critical condition. Rogucki's family told NBCNewYork that doctors said she has a 50-50 chance of survival.

Late Thursday afternoon police said they arrested 17-year-old Ishmel Rogucki of Brooklyn in connection with the shooting. He is being charged with criminal possession a weapon, officials said.
