4 Men Charged With Raping Brooklyn Girl for 8 Years

Prosecutors say the men intimidated the victim into silence.

Authorities have charged four men with terrorizing and raping a young New York City woman for eight years.

Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes said Wednesday that the victim was 13 when she was first attacked by two of the men. He said they "violently raped and assaulted'' her in a park.

He says the suspects intimidated her into silence, forced her to have sex for money and repeatedly beat and raped her over eight years.

The victim lived with her family and finished high school and college. Hynes says she finally told a professor after the suspects threatened to assault a member of her family.

The professor persuaded her to go to authorities.

The men face rape and other charges.

The arrested men have been identified as Damien Crooks, 31, Jamali Brockett, 27, Jawara Brockett, 33, and Darrell Dula, 24.

Crooks has a long rap sheet, including 37 prior arrests and six convictions. He was ordered held on $1 million bail.

"The recitation of what he's charged with is frightening, very very frightening," the judge said at the hearing.
