A four-alarm fire caused by a lightning strike in Brooklyn forced hundreds of residents out of their homes early Friday morning, authorities said.
The fire began after lightning struck the top floor of a six-story building on Rockaway Parkway in Brownsville at around 1 a.m. and quickly spread throughout the building.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries fighting the blaze, which was brought under control just before 2 a.m. No other injuries were reported.
The Red Cross estimated that residents from 60 units were displaced by the fire. Temporary housing was set up at a nearby school.
Friday morning, residents were being allowed back into their apartments one at a time to gather essential items.
