A 3-year-old girl has died after falling out of a fifth-floor window in Queens Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

According to police, the child, identified by police as Rusroshi Barua, fell just before 3 p.m., landing in a courtyard in back of the building in Woodside. She was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The building's super, Hazir Abdyli, told NBC 4 New York that the girl had somehow become locked in the bathroom of her family's apartment with a younger sibling Sunday.

The girl's parents called the super to help get the door open, but by the time he arrived, Abdyli said, the 3-year-old had already managed to squeeze through the narrow bathroom window.

Police say they are investigating the circumstances of the child's fall.
