3 Arrested in Bias Attack on Mexican Man

Cops arrested three men Friday morning in connection with the robbery and assault of a 26-year-old Mexican man on Staten Island.

Rolston Hopson, 27, Tyron Goodman, 17 and William Marcano, 17, all of Staten Island, each were charged with multiple counts of robbery and assault, including as a hate crime, which carries harsher sentences. They were also charged with aggravated harassment and criminal possession of a weapon. Cops said they were still looking for a fourth suspect involved in the alleged bias beating.

The victim, Rodulfo Olmedo, told cops he was walking past 137 Richmond Avenue early Monday morning when two black men and two Hispanic men approached him, shouting anti-Mexican slurs. Then Olmedo said the men struck him with an unknown object.

The suspects stole his wallet and cell phone before running off, cops say. Olmedo was taken to Richmond County Medical Center in stable condition.

The Hate Crimes Task Force has been investigating.
