Nine people were hurt in a three-alarm fire in Brooklyn this morning.
A fast-moving fire killed one person and injured eight others in Brooklyn Friday morning before firefighters got it under control.
Firefighters were called to the Brownsville section of the borough at about 6 a.m. Flames swept through the 4-story building on Lenox Road quickly, forcing residents out onto fire escapes. Crews had to use ladders to rescue a number of them.
An elderly woman was killed and another was seriously hurt, according to fire department authorities. Two other civilians and five firefighters suffered minor injuries.
All of the injured were taken to Brookdale Hospital. Authorities got the blaze under control just after 7 a.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
