3 Firefighters Hurt, 18 Residents Displaced by NJ Fire

Three firefighters were hurt and 18 residents were displaced when a fast-moving fire severely damaged three homes in New Jersey.

The three-alarm fire erupted around 10 p.m. Friday night in a three-story home that was undergoing renovations on Ridge Street and Second Avenue in Newark.

The fire quickly spread to two adjacent homes. The first home had heavy fire damage, while the other two had water, smoke and some fire damage.

Fire departments from several neighboring towns rushed to the scene to help douse the flames.

Two firefighters were treated at hospitals for heat exhaustion and smoke inhalation, while another suffered a hand laceration.

None of the displaced residents were injured.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
