Authorities have apprehended the 23-year-old man suspected in the fatal shooting of a Bronx man and a pair of violent robberies in Manhattan, an NYPD official says.
Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce tweeted Tuesday afternoon that the department apprehended Ruben "Chulo" Pizarro in connection with two New Year's Eve robberies and the fatal shooting of David Rivera, who was killed during an argument on Nov. 24.
"Excellent detective work has led to the apprehension of Ruben 'Chulo' Pizarro who is wanted for murder," Boyce said in the tweet.
Authorities say that someone watching a news report about Pizarro called police with the man's whereabouts Monday. Cops tracked him down in the Bronx a short time later and the man was detained after a short pursuit.
Charges against the man weren't immediately available.
Authorities have alleged that Pizarro gunned down Rivera while the pair argued near Crotona Avenue in the Tremont neighborhood. Rivera tried to run away at some point during the dispute and was shot in the chest, thigh, arm and groin. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
Pizarro was also wanted in connection with a pair of robberies in Washington Heights on New Year's Eve.

Authorities allege Pizarro jumped in a van ordered its 22-year-old driver to drive to Elwood Street, where he took the driver’s ID, jacket and debit card and told him to wait for him.
Pizarro then approached a second, 29-year-old victim and shot him in the shoulder as he demanded his book bag, police said.
He then allegedly took off with the victim’s book bag, which had a PlayStation 4 in it, and went back to the waiting van.
From there, he ordered the driver to drive to the Bronx, where he ran from the van, according to police.
The driver of the van was unharmed, police said. The man who was shot in the shoulder was taken to Harlem Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
Attorney information for Pizarro wasn't immediately available.
