Authorities say two Newark teenagers were apparently targeted in a shooting that left one of them dead and the other wounded.
Essex County prosecutors say 15-year-old Raheem Neal and his 17-year-old friend were apparently walking through the Rev. William D Watley Plaza housing complex when they were shot around 6:40 p.m. Saturday.
Both teens were taken to a hospital, where Neal died about three hours later. The older teen, whose name was not released, remained hospitalized Sunday in stable condition.
Prosecutors would not say Sunday why they believe the pair were targeted. They declined further comment on the shooting, citing the ongoing investigation.
