2 Men Killed in Flatiron Were “Targeted Hits”

The NYPD is investigating the execution-style shootings of two people inside a SUV that was found early today in the Flatiron district.

Police say they responded to a 911 call at 19th Street between Park Avenue and Broadway in lower Manhattan around 4 a.m. Monday.

They found two men in their 20s shot in the head.

They were targeted hits," said Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly about the execution style murders of two men in a car on 19th Street.

Both were witnesses wanted for questioning in two other homicides that happened last year in Brooklyn, according to the Commissioner.

"Detectives were looking for these witnesses, and one of them may have been shot at in an earlier incident," said Kelly.

Police have reviewed security camera video that the commissioner says shows two men pulling up in an SUV behind the victims' vehicle at 3:26am, then getting out and walking forward. The video does not show any shooting. But Kelly says the men run back to their SUV soon after. It was minutes before the bodies were discovered.
