Two police officers on Long Island are being credited with rescuing a disabled man from the roof of a burning home in East Islip.
Suffolk County Police Officers Jonathan Allen and Kelly Hendrickson were responding to a house fire Friday afternoon when they saw the man trapped on the roof.
Police say 67-year-old James Hanovic had climbed out a window to escape the flames. The two officers used a nearby ladder to rescue Hanovic and give him oxygen until firefighters arrived.
Hanovic was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was treated for heart and respiratory problems. A woman inside the home was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities were investigating the fire.
