3 Killed in 4-Car Crash on Taconic State Parkway

Three people were killed Saturday in a four-vehicle crash on Taconic State Parkway that sent eight other people to area hospitals, New York State Police said.

The accident happened at about 3:10 p.m. when a northbound sport utility vehicle went airborne after striking an embankment in the center median and collided with two southbound cars, investigators said. A third southbound vehicle then crashed into the others.

The names of the three people who died in the crash were not disclosed by investigators.

One person was taken to Westchester Medical Center and listed in critical condition, police said. Five others was said to be in stable condition at that hospital and two others were treated and released from Hudson Valley Hospital Center.

The cause of the crash, which happened just north of Baldwin Road in Yorktown, was under investigation.

The southbound lanes of the parkway were closed for more than five hours. Traffic was diverted to Route 202.
